Day Trip to Charlotte

Today I took a designated work holiday for a day trip. I had the honor and pleasure of spending time with a great group of people who are members of RacersReunion.com.  The day (trip) started at 5:45 a.m. and ended at 5:45 p.m. when I pulled out of our meeting place (Belk’s parking lot) and I was on the interstate headed back home. It was the fastest fun day I’ve had in a while. The group consisted of former Stock Car drivers and fans, all members of Stock Car RacersReunion (RacersReunion.com.)  The most exciting part of the day for me was being invited into the NASCAR Sirius Studio to talk with Chocolate Myers and actually hear and see all the programming control boards in work as he was preparing for his upcoming show.  I felt like a kid about to open their first Christmas present as we entered through massive doors and were led down a hallway to the studio.  It was awesome to stand there and listen to not only Chocolate, but Randy Myers, Bill Blair, Jr. and Tim Leeming (The Legend), all talk about history. chocolate myersMy time touring the actual facility was limited as I couldn’t stand for long periods of time, but the updates I saw throughout the building were great, which included displays of women who actually raced years ago. Louise Smith, for example.  I came upon the the most wonderful rocking chairs on each floor of the upper levels where you could sit down and rest if needed. This was my second trip there and I still haven’t seen everything on display. On this trip I mostly found myself totally delighted with seeing children and adults alike try their hand at the interactive displays, sometimes two or three times.  After touring most of the building we headed to the restaurant connected to the Hall of Fame for lunch, where we shared more stories and talked of the future.  A great day was had by all.  Hall of Fame visit. If you’re ever in Charlotte and have some extra time, this is a place you’ll want to visit.
