I love Oprah Winfrey.  I hold her up as the ultimate role model for women everywhere. When The Oprah Magazine arrived in my mail yesterday, I felt sincere disappointment.

Look at the picture. Is Oprah’s waist really that small? Really? Oprah promotes self-love and acceptance exactly as we are with all our warts, wrinkles and weight. So why are they photo-shopping Oprah’s waist to make her look thinner?

C’mon, Oprah. We love you just as you are. We don’t want to see a make-believe Oprah.  You inspire us to proudly declare our true selves and live authentic lives. This magazine cover is a direct contradiction to all you say you stand for.

You started a No Phone Zone campaign. How about starting a no-photo-shopping campaign? You have the power to alter society’s perceptions and media’s practices, and a good place to start is with your own magazine.

UPDATE!  Jan. 15, 2012:  I just stumbled on this brilliant video, a parody of a commercial for Adobe Photoshop, created by Jesse Rosten, a filmmaker in Northern California. Too funny!  Thanks, Jesse!
