If you plan on renting the DVD of “All Good Things,” please read this first
Kathie McCormack was a beautiful young woman. When I look at pictures of her, I remember an even prettier woman.
I liked Kathie because she was not all about her looks and that helped because I was so insecure about mine. My three brothers had secret crushes on her. I think they might protest this proclamation now, but their older sister saw their faces. Kathie always laughed the loudest at my father’s jokes and nothing pleased my late father more then to have a beautiful woman think him the cleverest man in the room.
On January 31, 1982 Kathleen McCormack was murdered. She was declared legally deceased in December 2001, but Kathie was murdered on January 31, 1982.
I am not an investigative reporter or in law enforcement. Kathie was a member of the family. Her family become blended into ours by marriage. She was my aunt’s sister and we were around the same age. It was a good mix of people who loved to laugh and they were quite the diplomatic lot because they ate my father’s burnt hamburgers.
I was living in Manhattan when Kathie went “missing.” I was an eastsider at the time while she resided with her monster in residence on the west side. Her disappearance made the news, BIG time. Every time I turned around, there was Kathie. Two dimensional yet so likable. And beautiful. She was close to graduating and becoming a doctor. If memory serves me well, she wanted to work with kids.
It seemed like everyone wanted to find her – alive.
I overheard two women talk about her as if they knew her while I waited for a train to take to my parents’ home. They were being judgmental because Kathie was wearing a halter top on the front cover of one of the papers. How quickly people were starting to create this false image of her. Be very careful what you say about people in a public place. You never know who is standing next you. It does cut deep.
(A few years later, I was attending a writers’ workshop in the city. The editor of one of the leading woman’s magazine got up to talk about their current issue. It contained an investigative story about abuse and women and there on the large screen was Kathie’s face. It was the oddest feeling to sit there in the dark and see her, but I was grateful that her story was still out there. I made a point to meet the editor later and when I explained who I was, she looked like she was going to faint. The world is a small place.)
Kathie’s murderer is a fine and upstanding member of the Durst family. Here is what I found on their website: For nearly a century, The Durst Organization has been a family-run real estate company grounded in simple but profound principles: Innovation. Integrity. They offered no help when Kathie could not be found. They hid Robert Durst from the authorities. I think you need to drop the word integrity from your site. You have none. Durst had been investigated in three other murders/disappearances and now the family is afraid of him. As I write this I realize, so am I. We all should be.
There is a DVD that just came out based on Kathleen McCormack’s tumultuous imprisonment and her murder. One of my brothers, who sent the trailer of “All Good Things” to me when the movie came out, remarked, “Well, it is loosely based on it. Looks pretty real to us.”
“The truth is hiding,” the trailer says. And to those of us who love Kathie and her family…it is hiding… in plain sight.
Thirty years later. It can still feel like yesterday.

Elizabeth… do you believe in reincarnation?
I’ve had three past life regressions, and memories of what I believe, belong to Kathy. If there is someone I can bounce these off of, that would be wonderful.
I’ve never reached out this way, but having the same nightmare is prompting me to.
I was born in ’87, and grew up in Texas.
My nickname has always been Kat, even though my name is Jess.
I have too many details for a comment, and I know this sounds crazy, but… you never know. The world is full of mystery.
Thanks
Jess Jem Kat
I hope the powers that be move the pending case along quickly in order to fully investigate Kathie’s case and now there’s this.
Just this moment I saw this story indicating there is an investigation in Vermont! Unbelievable!

Hi Elizabeth,
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. I randomly turned on my television a few years back and almost immediately saw Kathie’s face on the screen! It was an investigative report by Nancy Grace awhile back. I’ve been haunted ever since trying to remember where I knew Kathie from. I remembered always thinking how pretty she was, but she was just as kind! Since then I have read the book and just yesterday saw the movie. I decided to google the question, Did Kathleen McCormack attend Notre Dame School in New Hyde Park? I clicked on your blog and there in the posts, Jeanine Delaney (also a classmate of mine), gave me the answer I’ve been looking for. Kathie and your family are still in my prayers every night. I want her to be found so badly. Thanks for your wonderful blog. I think I’m going to like this site.
Hi Sue, thanks so much for writing. I am now friends with Jeannine who had such fond memories of Kathie. We all hope that there will be justice for Kathie and her family one day. Take care. elizabeth
I just watched the movie. I understand that not all is based on actual events. I wanted to know if there is an actual site to view the actual facts of this case. I am saddened greatly with all the evil in this world and how some can be so deceiving. I have not heard of this case until the movie. My heart hurts for this family and their lost daughter. Based on information that I have read so far I can not even imagine how this monster is still walking free. Her presumed dead, two others murdered one of which he admits to killing and dismembering, I’m sorry that is so far from self defense it just makes you want to line every idiot that believed this up and ask them how much they were paid and how could they live with themselves. The fact that this creep can cut someone up is enough to know he is one sick puppy and the odds of him not doing this before is to hard to disbelieve. He ran, he dressed like a woman…he is a coward in every sense of the word. The fact is family is so fear full of him is that they know the truth and maybe they should grow a pair and step off their high and mighty perches and tell the truth. The fact that some people claim they seen her after the night she was with the loser …well common sense this moron dressed as a woman how do they know he didn’t put himself off as her or pay someone else to do it? Also if the job were done thoroughly ALL of the properties this crazy person owned or had dealings with should have been checked as well as all bodies of water searched in several areas. This guy is clearly out of touch with reality and a conscience which makes for a continued ticking time bomb which clearly he continues to display very disturbing behavior. Has the family considered a wrongful death suit against him? They could use the money to help nail his butt
Robert Durst even made an audio commentary for the “all good things” dvd…
I’d say posthumosly Dr. Kathleen McCormack MD. if it hasn’t already been done, she deserves it!
I don’t mean to be sensitive I know it’s a hard time for your family , but since I read about kathie and I got so attached to her case and it has been driving me crazy not knowing what might have happened to her
I respect you don’t wanna talk about what happened to her but don’t you think if you know where her body might be or what happened to her , this will help set a closure for you by burrying her and who knows he might get convicted if you told the cops where the body is , this is a MAJOR lead in the case so why haven’t you spoken to the cops and if you had why isn’t she announced found?
One last thing is she or is she not found yet?
Chris- thanks for writing. the family would never keep anything from the police. They would just prefer not to speak about it publicly and I respect and honor their feelings.take care.
My question is , if he killed her , which is most likely what happened, where or what has he done with the body? I remembered reading the cops searched everywhere if he killed her why didn’t her body surface up somewhere ?
What do you think he actually did to her that night in 1982?
The family believes they know what happened to Kathy’s body and out of respect for my family, this is not something we will talk about in public.
Well then why don’t you guys talk to the cops about the place her body is in? I mean this is the way he will get convicted and she will get a proper burial
I don’t get it why are you helping him keep her body hidden? Don’t you wanna at least bury her?
I’m sorry, but this has got to be the GREATEST COVER-UP IN NYS HISTORY and JUSTICE NEEDS TO PREVAIL!!!
I have watched the movie a few different times. In 1982 I was just a few months shy of graduating from high school. I can’t believe I never read anything about this in the newspapers or even heard anything about it on the news and only 6 hrs away from me. Kathleen certainly was a beautiful young woman. My hope is that the family will somehow see justice done for her and have some closure. A question that has been in mind since I saw the movie was if the property that they owned in Vermont was ever searched??
Paulette – I believe their house was in South Salem in Westchester County. I don’t believe they ever searched the house and it may have been torn down. Kathie was a childhood friend of mine, but we went to different high schools. The last time I saw her we were both catching the bus from Jamaica (after taking the subway from Manhattan) to New Hyde Park. She was on the verge of marrying Robert Durst and was talking about opening a health food store, a new concept in the early seventies! She seemed happy and excited and I was thrilled for her! We never saw or talked to each other again as my parents moved to Florida, I never went back to NHPk. But I will always remember the day her picture was on the cover of the Daily News. “Missing”!! No question that the pscho sociopath Durst killed her. Jeanine Pierro was suppose to re-open the case when she was the DA of Westchester County, but she “may” have met with the Durst family and been “influenced” not to do so. I doubt we will ever find out what happened. I just pray that she didn’t suffer.
Jeannine – the house in Salem was finally searched but it was a long time after Kathy was killed. they didn’t find anything nor any evidence in the water by the house. They concentrated too much on NYC and what “eyewitnesses” thought they saw. as far as the Durst family goes now – they were useless when Kathy went missing but once they saw what Robert was capable of (because of the 2 other murders) they became concerned that he might do the same thing them so he got a lot of money to go away.
Jeannine, Thank you for replying to me. This movie was very shocking to me. It made me cry as well as angry. There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that psyco sociopath Robert Durst is guilty of Kathleen’s murder (as well as Susan Berman and Martin Black). Robert Durst may have all kinds of money but KARMA cares nothing about money. One way or another he will surely reap what he has sewn. May God Bless the families.
Its unbelievable how some innocent people are convicted of a crime they didn’t commit but a person who did commit a serious crime and so blatantly obvious is set free! The Justice system in this country is a hit & miss its not consistent the way it should be, all because of bribery! Its disgusting what money can do for people!!!
i just saw the movie and being too engrossed and curious thathow can a person`s life just be a missing person case file in some office !!!!!it made me cry i hope that psychopath suffers a horrible end are`nt there anyclues abt her last whereabouts , i mean its hard to believe that no one can find what exactly went on
kathie is not dead in 1975 she was pregnant and robert told her to get rid of it she instead hid the child and entered the witness protection program and was relocated to orlando florida as vicki dawn mitchell in 1982. She filed for divorce from joseph mitchell in 1982. Her son was named damein mitchell. In 1986 Joseph mitchell died in luissiana. vicki mitchell traveled to luissiana and was given amimatrix guardianship of estate and damein was a forced heir. a surety bond was placced over the case. I am damein mitchell i have never found seen or know of any existance of my father or family members. Thank you jim for hiding me until things were finished and robert i know uve been looking for me and i expect one day ull find me.
BERMAN SAID SHE WAS GOING TO SPELL THE BEANS AND WACK SHE WAS GONE. NO INVESTIGATION HAS TAKEN PLACE A FEW QUESTIONS AND THEY GAVE UP. SO SAD SHE WAS A GREAT PERSON
We had heard that a few detectives were coming out from NY to talk to Susan and then she ended up dead. Durst got away with Kathie and Susan’s murder. But he wasn’t done – he killed again. He will get his.
I’M NOT SCARED I HAVE LIVED IN FEAR MANY YEARS. HE KILLED KATHLEEN, AND THEN SUSAN BERMAN
G- yes, he did and I am so sorry for your lost too. One day Durst will see that murdering people will catch up with him. He broke too many hearts not to find karma waiting for him.
hello,
ive just seen ” all good things ” . i am very intrigued by this story and how robert durst managed to get out of this so easily. i hope that karma does a great job on him.
I have just seen All Good Things. Possibly one of the most disturbing things I have read since seeing the film is that the creature himself was quoted as saying he enjoyed watching it. It just goes to show how sickly arrogant and remorseless the man is.
Hi Elizabeth – I was a childhood friend of Kathie’s. We met each other when she came into my 7th grade class at Notre Dame School in New Hyde Park. I would very much like to privately communicate with you, I sent you an email, I hope you received it. I loved Kathie, she was not only beautiful, but very, very smart and always laughing!!
Sincerely,
Jeannine Delaney Moylen
I just wrote a whole great peice here, suggesting solutions etc etc and it disappeared from the screen, no buttons clicked or anything. Great ! See if I can come on back to post it again. Been having some funny things go on on this computer this morning. Hope to get back and re post. Thank you for bringing this to attention. God bless you 🙂
hi, just saw this movie, all good things twice, had too. I can’t believe he got away with those murders. How can someone who has the nerves to dissembled a body, with a saw, after killing “so he says” in self defense can be found not guilty is beyond belief. Truly amazing what power and money can buy.
I’m convinced he is a crazy murderer who got away . I’m disgusted. The family of Kathie have all my sympathy and I frankly I didn’t know her, but I’m angry and hope what’s coming to him will come soon and nasty.
Interesting movie based on true life story…..wouldn’t want to be a guilty perpetrator having truth surface and the entire nation knowing about it…….that is, in addition to the guilty perpetrator knowing it all along and apparently hiding it until the movie comes out anyway…….!!!! May truth prevail….and those innocent affected have peace, as best can be……thanks for all thats done for greater good
ladies !
Hi Elizabeth Thanks for sharing Kay! : It truly is amazing how life takes the strangest turns. The fact that you/ Elizabeth are related must appear all the more mystifying. That Robert Durst could get off and leave a trail of murders behind is absolutely despicable! Money talks… but some day that man will get what he deserves… if not in this life… in hell! I must also watch the movie. Perhaps it’s worth an investigative blog. I’ll contemplate that one!

Donna – thanks so much for connecting. It has been quite odd for 30 years that the family can’t get justice. and, yes, we all believe in karma and Durst is going to get hit so hard his cold dead heart will drop out of his body. any help/blog would be greatly appreciacted. I know Kathie’s family would like the fact that someone else out there cares about their sister/daughter.
Susan Murphy Milano asked for your contact info. I gave her your email address & phone #. She’s not afraid to get in anyone’s face.
Thanks again for all your help. Just to get more coverage on this would be a godsend. I know I can probably get Kathie’s brother Jimmy who has been trying for 30 years to get some justice. this is amazing. I look forward to talking to Susan.
In my opinion, Robert Durst is a serial killer whose family money allows him to walk amongst us. I’ve read about Kathie’s case, the murder of his neighbor in Galveston, and the murder of Susan Berman. My feeling is he’s done them all and probably money has hushed not only the media attention, but the investigations as well. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there are not more murders in his wake. He’s a psychopath of the worst kind…a wealthy one!.
Elizabeth, interestingly I just put this movie on my Netflix list! Will be sure to watch it!
the detectives assignend to her case were so dedicated. they stayed in touch with her family for years and promised to always keep an eye on the case. Money and lots of it kept that monster from even being interviewed. he is walking around with millions because his family does not want him near them. now there scared. I did that, but they don;t get much more from me. not watching the movie, but wanted people to know that Kathie lived and was a good person who was becoming a doctor so she could help.
Kay- Kathie’s story has been on Dateline and other news programs and 2 author friends did a book at real life events from Law and Order and inlcuded Kathie’s story also. her brother, Jimmy, is the spokesperson for the family and they still believe that maybe, just maybe they will get some justice. they would love this before kathie’s mother passes. Durst was found not guilty in one case (too stupid to even say why since he confessed) and the other person was his best friend who was found with a bullet wound in her head after NY detectives were going to fly out to interview her in CA.. We would love any new attention given to her case. She deserves it. Thanks so much.
Unfriggin believable. I have already shared your post with Susan, her publicist Delilah, Donna Gore (“LadyJustice), and another of our regular HWT members, avid trial-watcher Shirley Graham. I’m sharing this comment with them too. This gets my blood boiling.
Thanks so much, Kay. We want to keep this story alive and out there. You are such a good and carring human being.
That is such a sad story. Have the police given up on it? Is she considered a missing person? What about the other there disappearances? I’m going to share this blog with Susan Murphy Milano, our “Jane Wayne of Justice” who does a show each week on HWT heating up unsolved cases gone cold, missing persons, and intimate partner homicide.

Carol- Kathie is my aunt’s sister. We used to get together a lot and so we were all close. Once Kathie disappeared, I don’t think we got together again. Her family was so shattered and kept trying to believe that she would come back. But you are right – it is still so sad and hard to believe that this happened to someone I know. I have not seen the movie. I think you will understand why- been there. Thanks. elizabeth
I had no idea. I’ve read about this case and had no idea this was your sister, Elizabeth. I felt your continued sorrow throughout. Thank you for sharing this and I will watch the movie.
