Let Your Star Shine! You ARE a Star
It’s my turn to provide the spiritual reading at The Unity Center of New York. We have a wonderful minister -i Justin Epstein – who moved to us from I’m given only a bit over 2 minutes. In doing the research, however, I found dozens of quotes giving you reasons to SAY YES TO YOU! I’ll give you just a few. Some of them made my eyes tear immediately. This column may have fewer words than usual – but you have a lot of thinking to do.
Let’s begin:
We don’t change “what we are”, we change “what we think we are” (He’s saying that you are a star – you just may not think it.)
– Eric Butterworth
I thank God for my handicaps, for, through them, I have found myself, my work, and my God.
~Helen Keller
I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.
~Thomas A. Edison
I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.
~Mother Teresa
If you hear a voice within you say “You cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.
~Van Gogh
“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.”
― Carl Sagan, Cornell Astronomy Professor Cosmos
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.
~Eleanor Roosevelt
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.
~Anne Frank
Think about these quotes. A man who was burying the star he truly was wouldn’t have allowed himself to keep going, as Thomas Edison did, after getting such dismal results for so long!
It was Ann Frank’s quote really started me weeping. Yes, she did die young – and – do you know who she was? You betcha. She made her mark on the world. She let the star she naturally is – shine through. So can I. So can you!
What it takes – is quieting down and letting your spirit direct you to the direction that’s best for you to take and to the choices that will best serve you. The thoughts we were taught to have when we were young, by well meaning people – or sometimes not so well meaning people – can blur the truth for us. I’ve recently been working on this issue myself and I even wrote a song about it. One of the lines is: “I have a GPS. They call it a brain. Just clear out useless thoughts: it works! You’ll see!” Our egos come in with al the false fearful thoughts we were taught to have and block out the truthful thoughts, unless we pay attention to this happening. We can allow these false earful thoughts to dull the brightness of our star, which is always there and ready to shine out and wow ‘em! I’m committing to shining in my 70s and onward. I’m committed to remembering I’m a star when I sense myself feeling “less than…”
I would agree, Little Ann probably went with her gut. It is wonderful that she had pen, paper and a diary to write in which was later found by her father.
Devin
Kay – you’re the blessing to all of us. Without you this wouldn’t be. You shine Girl!
Brilliant post, Bobbie. I need to read this everyday.
I’m amazed by the wisdom of Anne Frank, such a young girl, and her forgiving spirit. “Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.” ~Anne Frank
I love the Van Gogh quote. I hadn’t heard that one before.
Thank you for helping me see beyond my minuscule everyday problems. You are a star!
Bless you Devin! The people i’m quoting are great thinkers. The best part is when they don’t even know they’re “thinking” – like little Ann Frank – given her youth and the situation she was in. I have a feeling she went with her gut. Best GPS we have.
This is a “starshine” post! Enjoyed reading it tonight.
Thank you.
