This event is very sad and heartbreaking. Facts: Remnants of Tropical Storm Barry passed through Texas the weekend of July 3, 2025. The state issued an alert for the weekend prior to the flood warning later issued by the NWS at 1:14 a.m., July 4th for an area that is known to flood.
Why did the Kerr County EMS Manager not spring into action? A warning is a warning. It means flooding is occurring. No one seems to have taken any action until sometime after 4 a.m.
Yes, I know there were no sirens to sound, and I know most everyone was asleep. But there is protocol. I think it would be helpful if the Kerr County EMS staff step forward to explain what happened. Why were staff not monitoring river levels after the initial warning due to not having a siren warning system? What action do you think they should have taken?
Whenever lives are lost in an airplane crash or train crash, an investigation is required to determine the cause so that mistakes aren’t repeated or a part found to be defective. Families will need answers in order for complete closure.
My thoughts are with all the families affected and first responders and those now searching in recovery.
Additional information will be added as it becomes available.
